We Only See At Each Other At Weddings And Funerals

After an unnecessary amount of hassle at the bank, I managed to obtain the badly needed £12.99. Why did I need it so badly? Being an a avid music and comic book fan, I decided to metaphoriclly kill two birds with one stone and purchase The Umbrella Academy, Apocalypse suite issues 1-6. Written by Gerard Way (My Chemical Romance fame) and drawn by Gabriel Bá (illustrator of De:TALES and Casanova) it seemed a perfect addition to my ever expanding comic/graphic novel collection. The book, set in an Orwellian style, not too distant future, is about seven extraordinary children, born in a worldwide spontaneous labour (47 births in total) from mothers who’d shown no previous signs of pregnancy. Millionaire inventor Reginald Hargreeves adopts seven of these children, and for what purpose, “To save the world” of course.
The book is a poetic and dark satire of the relationships between brothers and sisters, but contains the comic genres favourites of zombies, super powers and an iconic sense of humour. It’s a perfect addition for both the veterans and novice comic collector’s library. It’s so good, that having already read it on the way to work; I might just read it again. Possibly a bit Emo, but who doesn’t relish the chance of indulging in a bit of hopelessness.
