This weekend, more specifically the 12th of October 2008, at the Brixton academy is the world B-Boy finals. Like rap battles and any other form of competition there are two teams/crews, and they have to battle each other to decide which one is the best, by using the most impressive display of dancing or words (spitting). The winning crew/team are chosen by the amount of “props” they get from a crowd of peers, the losing team are shamed, then branded on the face, so everyone knows they lost a battle. Pretty savage stuff, so when I heard it was going on in Brixton, I thought to myself “Couchy, you should do an update, because things are going to get serious, they are going to tear down London”…and then the kid from Britain’s Got Talent rang me, and told he was going to piss on Ant & Dec’s shoes – Couch

Our pals over at Tweaker Zine (a splendid online skate mag) are putting on an exhibition at Slam City (a splendid skate shop in London’s Covent Garden) from the 16th of this month until the 16th of November. So if you want to be knee deep in mutual appreciation and experience the Cheers-like atmosphere of London’s premiere skate emporium then be there at the opening.

Short notice I know, but The Joyful Bewilderment ’private’ view is tomorrow night at Rough Trade East. Featuring the work of French, James Jarvis, Toby Shuall, Ben Javens and a rack load of other dudes and dudettes, the exhibition runs until the 27th of October and looks rather good. You should just go there and see it, rather than trying to make out the names of the other artists showing from this 72dpi flyer.

I can’t remember how I found this video, but it was probably a stormy night and I was trapped in doors with nothing but a cross-bow that I had bought for £25.00 from the Army and Navy store down the road. Well, anyway the power was out, I was in my make shift tent, hunting mice; when all of a sudden…the power came back on and firefox restored my session and it went straight to youtube and this video was right there on my desktop! There are lots of vices in the world. Some are more acceptable than others, but every vice has a maudlin stigma attached to it, one way or the other. Smoking and drinking are acceptable, and so are drugs depending on the circles you move in; but some people just will not tolerate excessive drinking of energy drinks. There are all types of things wrong with them (any more than 8 cans and your heartbeat goes funny and not ha-ha funny either), but if we were’nt supposed to drink them, they wouldn’t be so tasty. Anyway I found this man on YouTube and he Drinks 6 cans in less than 8 minutes!!! - Couch

The Wackness

Director: Jonathan Levine

This sound track is soooo good, that it actually helps you follow the story. It’s a mixture of 90s hip-hop (A Tribe Called Quest, Notorious B.I.G) along with Sir Ben Kingsley’s character’s 60’s collection (some Neil Young and possibly some Grateful Dead). Teenager Luke Shapiro (Josh Peck) is a drug dealer, he doesn’t like his life, he can’t get laid and he isn’t very popular. I probably wouldn’t like him either if I met him; he seems like a bit of a pussy (cat). Sir Ben Kingsley is his psychiatrist, their relationship grows throughout the movie, and you get a warm fuzzy feeling when you know they’re true blue buddies. Mary Kate Olsen has a cameo as a weird hippy chick, and Kingsley sorts her out pretty quickly (not psychologically I might add and in a bar too) and she isn’t seen again, which is very suspicious. Had I made this movie I think there would have been a bit more violence, a bit more Mary Kate and possibly, a speedboat chase in there somewhere; but I didn’t make this movie and as it stands, it’s a real metaphor for dealing with the bad, so you can appreciate the good even more - Couch
