French Waffle In Bristol

vansxfrench

The good people at Vans are putting on an exhibition of new and previously unseen work by French to coincide with his doodlings adorning the latest Dustin Dollin No Skool 2 shoe.

Entitled the Humour Of Initiation and on at Bristol’s Fifty Fifty expect lots of incredibly intricate illustrations of animals, mutilated nuns and maybe even the man himself looking resplendent in a vintage Nuclear Assault t-shirt.

The exhibition opens at 6pm on Saturday the 4th of April and continues throughout April. Oh and if you’ve got a minute and didn’t see it when it first came out check out French’s interview in Issue 5 (click on the cover with the back-to-back bearded dudes on it to the left).

Jeremy Fish - The Ambush

Jeremy Fish Mural and Print Release at Fecal Face Dot Gallery San Francisco

All photos, video and text by Isaac McKay-Randozzi

San Francisco has been Mr. Fish’s home for over a decade and in that time he has had a long association with the art web site, Fecal Face. Fecal Face has been highlighting the work of Fish and his West coast contemporaries for 8 years, with photographic content from the mean streets of NYC and Chicago via various correspondents and guest artist bloggers. But Fish and a few others have been constants on the site.

A year after the physical location of Fecal Face opened up in the form of a hole-in-the-wall gallery on Gough and Market Streets aka the butt-crack of San Francisco, Mr. Fish filled the space with a story of vengeance. The mural tells the story of a bastard of a gladiator who was on a drunken rampage through the forest. Sick and tired of his constant torment, the natives began to get restless, then organized. The print that accompanies the mural and installation depicts the moments before the creatures of the forest get their revenge upon the harbinger of death and foul smelling flatulence.

March 11, 2009 By: admin Category: Art No Comments →

lee1Running since January 2007 the Lee Jeans ‘Make History’ photography comp has received more than 16,000 entries from budding snappers of which some 2,000 were featured online. At the back end of last year a shortlist of 101 pictures were published on the Make History site and from there a winner was chosen. Chosen by a panel including Terry Jones (i-D Magazine) Veronique Kolasa (Le Book), Carla Sozzani (Galleria Carla Sozzani) and Frank Kalero (Ojo de Pez), 27 year old Rossella Dimichina, from Ferrara, Italy snagged the prize and €50,000 for this shot titled THE WEAK IN WONDERLAND.

Anyway, the point is you can yay or nay the judges’ choice for yourself at a free Pop Up exhibition featuring the the 101 Make History finalists. On in Central London until next Tuesday 17th March, just behind Carnaby Street, and 29 Fouberts Place, W1 to be exact, go get critical.

Shaped by forces that determine our social structures, Li draws inspiration from engagement with the many cultures he encounters. Exhibiting at the Arts Institute Bournemouth from the 16th March till the 17th April, ‘Family Village’ focuses on urban planning in China, where towns and villages have been transformed by the desire to reflect British vernacular architectural sensibilities. Or something like that. Ahh karaoke, it’s ace.
